This means that her biology class is moving up in what they are learning, but instead of using the words moving up, she is saying that they graduated.Melinda was suffering in this class because she didn't understand what was going on. She was distracted very quickly. Little things that meant nothing bothered her. When The class was moving up in biology Melinda was not happy because she didn't understand what she was doing in the first place, so she thought that she would be lost throughout the rest of the year.
